The introduction to the Havdalah, the closing service of the Sabbath, begins with the words, “Hinei El Yeshuati Evtach…” (“Behold, G-d is my salvation; I will trust…”).
This beautiful farewell to the Sabbath consists of the above-mentioned introduction, the blessings for the fruit of the vine, the spices and for light, and finally the Hamavdil prayer. Therefore, the Kiddush (wine) cup, spice box and lit Havdalah candle are elements of the ‘iconoscape”.
The Havdalah candle is always made up of entwined candles. The multiple wicks burn as one flame.
The tablets of the Law appear on the initial letter, Hei, to remind us of the commandment, “Remember of the Sabbath day, to keep it holy”.
The setting sun is placed at the center far right. The moon and three stars in the upper left signal the conclusion of the Sabbath.
